Crypto is Going Mainstream…

This article caught our eyes this week…

Visa is partnering with over 50 crypto companies to allow clients to spend and convert digital currencies (msn.com)

Companies like VISA are bringing Crypto to the mainstream, without the mainstream having to become experts in it…and THIS could be part of what helps Crypto really breakthrough to the mainstream audience.

A consistent question about Crypto from critics has been ‘but what can you use it for’ and while there are literally millions of applications, it is confusing, and the average person may never want to learn the details.

But by Visa acting as the go-between so that people can spend their Crypto at Merchants that don’t even accept it, it could become the bridge that spans the great divide!

It will allow people who already have Crypto to use it more and every day, it will likely expose more people to Crypto, especially those that hesitated because they didn’t want to learn another new technology. And, it could open the flow of Crypto in all kinds of ways across the globe through Visa’s existing network.

Think about how Browsers (that were user friendly and didn’t force regular people to become programmers) opened up the internet to the world.

Or how debit cards and the debit terminals that stores could just buy and start using revolutionized digital payments (even for those that did not want to use credit cards).

This could be a game-changer for how Crypto comes to the masses…

And having said that, it is likely to also introduce a world of challenges -like any new technology and paradigm does.

We already have countries claiming to ban Crypto, Governments trying to come up with laws and regulations and other countries trying Crypto Currency experiments to hopefully change their Economic landscape…this will only continue and increase as more people start using Crypto on a regular basis.

So, what I’m saying, is expect some chaos and volatility in the Crypto markets…or perhaps I should say expect MORE chaos and volatility.

And clearly Visa wants to ‘corner the market’ on bringing Crypto to the masses by being that go-between.

Those of us that do understand the power of Crypto react suspiciously because much of the benefits Crypto offers could be lost by having an established financial juggernaut like Visa act as the go-between (which allows it to continue its monopoly and control over our financial transactions…one of the issues that caused Crypto to be created in the first place!).

If we are really trying to change the status-quo, should we put in charge one of the main companies from the old status-quo?

There seems to be a real conundrum developing in the Crypto world (at least to us) that the more it appeals to the masses, the more it gets watered down from its original ideals and benefits…yet without that adoption by the masses it will never reach its true potential.

Every new technology and major shift in the way things have been done brings about the excitement and fear of change, something humans don’t always react well to.

This will be no different but we at NLS Coaching are on the ‘excited’ side of the fence when it comes to Crypto!
